Special Constuction African Mahogany Dashboard Blank

The task was to create a mahogany 0 - 90 - 0 laminate blank to match the original construction. the  materials were selected for grain and color match . The 90 degree grain center laminate was created and calibrated. Then the assembly was bonded and cured in the heated vacuum press for a no void stable platform for the restorer to work with.

The Job was to reproduce a UK licenses plate for a 1928 Mercedes  - at times this car was referred to as "3314" so it was very important that the size, shape, lettering and finish were correct

Research and Design

The first step was to research period correct plates and then accurately model this specific  plate from origional 90 year old pictures 

Generate G-code

The second step is to select casting pattern material and generate CNC code for cutting

Prep Raw Casting 

once the casting was received it was trimmed, faced and textured - this is how it was delivered to the restoration company

Finished plate ready to install

After delivery to the restorer, they polished and painted the plate

The third step is to cut the casting pattern  accurately to the design -  in this case ABS plastic
